Bad News for Outlaws
The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U.S. Marshal
Author: Vaunda Micheaux Nelson
Coretta Scott King award
"Jim Webb's luck was running muddy when Bass Reeves rode into town." From being a slave to living in a Native American tribe, to becoming a Deputy U. S. Marshal, Bass Reeves was peaceful and honorable man who became a Deputy U.S. Marshall .He lived during times when being an enforcer of the law was dangerous business. Bass Reeves however was creative in getting the job done. That was his #1 priority.
I would use this book in my class because it is about a historical chsracter. It would be appropriate for a second grade class and I would use it in a social studies lesson.
